Primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy through the 'retrospectroscope'

چکیده
OBJECTIVE: To review pathological approaches to the diagnosis and prognosis of primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy. DATA SOURCES: Medline and non-Medline literature search (1966-1999) and personal experience. STUDY SELECTION: The following key words were used: IgA nephropathy, pathology, grading. DATA EXTRACTION: Data were extracted and analysed independently by the authors. DATA SYNTHESIS: Primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy is the most common glomerular disease worldwide and this also holds true in Hong Kong, where it represents the most common condition encountered in diagnostic renal biopsy examinations. This type of chronic nephropathy currently has no effective curable therapy, and in a significant proportion of patients, it progress to end-stage renal disease. Supportive treatment is very important, because it may alter the natural course and slow down the progression of this nephritis. CONCLUSION: Pathological grading of immunoglobulin A nephropathy currently represents the most useful method to appraise the renal outcome.

Report of a Case of Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy in a Patient Without a Family History of Kidney Disease
Introduction: IgA Nephropathy is the most common form of glomerulonephritis and the major cause of end-stage renal disease. Gross or microscopic hematuria is a common symptom of hematuria and occurs in less than 5% to 10% of patients with IGM with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic biomarkers of this disease after biopsy. Methods: IgA...
متن کاملGenetics of immunoglobulin A nephropathy.
INTRODUCTION Immunoglobulin (Ig) A nephropathy is the most common primary glomerulonephritis in the world and about 20% to 50% of patients with it develop progressive renal failure. There is considerable evidence to show that IgA nephropathy is influenced by genetic factors. The purpose of this review is to provide useful information concerning genetics of IgA nephropathy. METHODS AND RESULTS...

OBJECTIVES Immunoglobulin A nephropathy is the most common cause of chronic renal failure among primary glomerulonephritis patients. The ability to diagnose immunoglobulin A nephropathy remains poor. However, renal biopsy is an inconvenient, invasive, and painful examination, and no reliable biomarkers have been developed for use in routine patient evaluations. The aims of the present study wer...
متن کاملUpper extremity venous thrombosis associated with primary antiphospholipid syndrome and immunoglobulin M nephropathy in diabetes mellitus type II
Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a disorder characterized by antiphospholipid antibody positivity, arterial or venous thrombosis, and fetal loss. In APS, renal as well as vascular and glomerular involvement is observed. Systemic lupus erythematosus and other connective tissue diseases should be excluded to diagnose primary APS. Immunoglobulin M (IgM) nephropathy is characterized by single or ...

Background: Economic evaluation of subcutaneous immunoglobulin therapy (SCIG) is important, and it has recently been used for treatment of patients with primary immunodeficiency (PID) diseases, and can improve allocation of resources in health care systems. The present research aimed at providing an economic assessment of SCIG and IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulin therapy) adm...
